Migrating Movable Type to Drupal

Three cheers to Michael who just migrated out of Movable Type and into Drupal Hip Hip Hooray Here's his blog: Michael and here's where I write about it on my blog.

Not only did Michael do an outstanding job on the content migration but his Drupal blog has a great theme -- it really looks like a lovely blog page and not like every other Drupal site. He also did a nice job of implementing Drupal Image Gallery here.

Also make sure to read Michael's reply when asked how Drupal compares to MT:

There is no doubt that what I miss in Drupal, compared to MT, is the well designed experience with site administration. Because the design of MT is controlled and not really extendable, the user interface for administrating an MT system is well thought out and well presented. It's just much simpler to get around the administration and the labels for admin functions are clear and easy to understand. The team that developed that tool is comprised of an excellent designer and an excellent perl programmer. The also have had deep blog-user penetration (esp. with the bay area folks) and a lot of the users, as it turns out, happen to be UI designers, so I have feeling user feedback has played a big role in evolving the UI.
On the other side of the spectrum, Drupal offers greater flexibility and
extendability of features. But it is clear to most of the people I've talked
to that the admin interface is designed to be a technical person's tool and that's where people get scared. I'm not a technical person, per se, but I bit the bullet and used Drupal because of its functionality. But as a user of both MT and Drupal for the past year, I feel that Drupal doesn't need to scare people off and can offer a better experience. That's what Kika and I are trying to suggest. We'll make movement in that direction soon as we get the time to make concrete recommendations.
