Passing product image to node/add

Ok, so please bear with me. This is my first post for help and I'm sure I'll make 3,001 gaffes.

I am setting up a site that will sell custom design items (birth announcements, stationery, etc). Once a customer choose a product, I'm using uc_node_checkout to gather information (names, dates, times, etc) from then for customization.

I have overridden the node add/edit page with panels and am using the two column stacked layout. On the right I have the cck fields that I want to gather the info from. It's all set up and showing appropriately.

On the left, I would like to pass in the product image. So far, it's a no go. I just can't figure it out. I'm sorry if it's obvious, but I'm so turned around now that my eyes are starting to cross.

Any ideas on how I might accomplish pulling the product image in? Oh and please let me know what useful info I've left out.
