stories vs blog for news: which one do you prefer?

Hello,

For adding news items to your drupal website: is there a difference between using stories and the blog module? What are the advantages and disadvantages of both? Which one do you prefer and why?

Thanks! Carlo

I use stories

for my 2 cents I use stories, rather than blogs as blogs are more closely related to the user who posted them, i.e. you'll have a link come up that directs you to that users blog. I'm sure this can easily be removed through theming though if u wanted to use blogs, other than that there seem to be few differences, If your site is going to contain news and blogs I think it makes sense to use stories for news so that blogs remain blogs......and can more easily be independantly themed etc

one advantage of using blogs for news would be that if you have an rss feed news from an external source displayed in a block it gives you the option to blog that particular news item dumping some of the content into the blog body ready for you to add your own spin on it.

Thats the great thing about drupal, it's flexibility.......you can use whatever node type is going to be most suitable for the content you are posting. It will depend on what type of news you want to add to your site, If it is headline news from other sources then look deeper into using the aggregator and some of the other modules available like simple news and possibly blogs, If the news you intend to post is centered around your own news relating to the site for example then stories is a simple solution

If I were the only one to

If I were the only one to post stories on the site, then a blog would be appropriate, but in my case, I wanted other administrators to be able to post the same kinds of news in the same space, it made sense to use stories.

However, I did only want admins to create site related news, and regular users to be able to create user news, so I used contento.module to create another node type for regular users. (I hope that makes sense. :)
