is there any easy way to set the default value of nodes to "0" instead of "-5/-20/-40"?

I'd find it useful to have all nodes (old and new) having a default medium value (0 is fine) and thus having an easy way to promote a certain node upper. Right now if I want just to put a node upper in the list I have to modify all nodes' weight (to set it lower than the default).

The node weights should be defaulting to 0. What are you seeing them defaulting to?

Have you gone to admin/settings/weight and reconfigured the database for the weight module? <-- my guess is that this is your problem.

I didn't know that. I saw everywhere a "-40" default value

Nope. Right now I did it and it works perfectly (with the default set automagicall ;-) to zero).
