I have installed chatroom module and I want add smiley select box into the chatroom. I have followed the instructions in INSTALL.txt which goes with Smileys module. I also go to settings to enable smileys for chat and chatroom content types, but the select box did not appear. Any idea of what I missed?

It's step four that every one seems to miss. Go to admin/settings/filters and configure basic filtering and add Smileys filter.
