As per TR's suggestion in a recent thread, I would really like the option to turn off the required product dimensions for UPS 'Customer supplied packaging'. I saw some other posters who have similar needs, and as I sell fabric in variable yardages, it is impossible to get an accurate dimension. I can fold my product into almost any shape, but the weight is fairly constant per unit.
I was getting UPS quotes only with the weight configured, but since UC 2.4 it's now forcing me to input dimensions on the product pages. I guess I commented out part of the module previously, and I could do so again but I'm really trying to avoid this. I'm really trying to just stick with recommended practices esp. with D7 & UC 3 coming soon(?)
I noticed that a 1 x 1 x 1 dimension has been mentioned as an option, but it would be fairly tedious with the number of products I currently handle. I've seen it said that using other settings won't require dimensions, but again my product works best with the flexibility of using custom packages. I always manually print my UPS labels and I input the package dimensions at that time and the difference in cost has never been an issue.

j.mead commentedi saw that post, but my understanding is that this would change the packaging to something other than custom, which is not what I need. i previously had no dimensions and returned quotes w/o errors, after 2.4 i can't edit an item without having a dimension entered for 'Customer supplied packaging'
hesitant to make changes, as i recently found that adding my name to the default address resulted in UPS returning quotes based on 2 different pickup locations, and had to manually remove it from 200+ items...

tr commentedThe uc_product_power_tools module will let you set default dimensions for products. Some of that functionality may be put into Ubercart 7.x-3,x, but it's not going to be changed in 6.x-2.x.
