Transportation Alternatives (TA), New York City's advocates for bicycling, walking and public transportation, seeks a Drupal Developer to build a new public transit advocacy web site. The site is part of a campaign that will activate New York City’s transit riding public, and will motivate Albany to properly support the MTA.
Responsibilities
The site will feature user-submitted content, a feature box with video/photos, action alerts, RSS feeds, and will need to integrate with Twitter, Mobile Commons, Facebook and possibly with local Perl CGI-BIN scripts or Drupal Webforms.
The site will also need to provide a simple backend that will allow our Advocacy staff to manage daily site operations, including user management, content moderation and publishing/scheduling new content.
The site will be built on Drupal 5 (PHP 4.3.9), with an eye for upgrading to Drupal 6 (PHP 5.2) a few months after launch. The upgrade to Drupal 6 is not included in the scope of work, but this could be arranged if desired, and if funding allows.
Qualifications
The Developer must have at least 3 years experience in developing Drupal web sites, including experience building custom themes from a designer's template files and a knack for PHP coding.

Just a thought, it would be
Just a thought, it would be easier to develop the site in Drupal 6 since it has modules that support twitter and facebook and at this point using Drupal 5 for a new site seems odd. So why do you want the site developed with Drupal 5?
To add to Nevets comment
You have a project end date of September 2010 for a Drupal 5 website. Once Drupal 7 is launched, Drupal 5 will no longer be supported; you'd be working yourself into a corner. I'd recommend developing in Drupal 6, and in a year or so consider redeveloping for Drupal 7 if there's a business case to do so.
just wanted to get in on
just wanted to get in on this, curious why Drupal 5 was selected so close to the D7 release...

D5 considerations
We originally went for D5 because of OS (PHP4.x) limitations. We've since upgraded the OS and launched on D6. Check it out at http://riderrebellion.org!
