Hi there,
When using different domains and "Language domain" is not set for the default language at /admin/settings/language/edit/en for instance, the default language flag links to the current language, and not to the default language as it should.
This can easily be fixed by simply put the default domain in the "Language domain" field, but as this field can be left empty for the default domain, I would consider this to be a bug.
Cheers,

sp3boy commentedHave you tried disabling language icons module and testing what happens without it? The icons are only a visual enhancement as far as I know so it may be that the bug is located somewhere else. I have had problems like you describe when using path prefixes and the "language fallback" option: specifically if the browser was set to, e.g. Italian, the language switcher link could not change back to English (the default). That site did not use language icons at all.

enzipher commentedIt's quite possible that this is due to something else. I don't have access to the site in question anymore and would have to set up a similar scenario in order to test it, but lack of time right now.
I am changing the status of the issue as more info as needed to sort this out.
Thanks,

Freso commentedThis issue hasn't got anything to do with Language icons. As sp3boy points out, Language icons simply adds icons to the language links. The links themselves are provided by Drupal core's own language system. If you experience a bug with this, please file it there. Thank you.

enzipher commentedWhen I read the issue today 3 month later it did seem strange that Language icons would have anything to do with this. Will file an issue at the correct place if this surface again. Thanks.
