i tried to theme different term with different template. i followed the instruction here but it does not work

it keeps using the default template instead. any idea what i did wrong or am i missing something?

Can you please provide a code snippet or stg. we can comment on. Its hard to say what you did wrong, without knowledge of what you actually did ;)
You can also try taxonomy_theme module (http://drupal.org/project/taxonomy_theme).
