It would be really nice to have the option of displaying the most recently updated nodes that match the other criteria (taxonomy, etc.). The block I have set up with Relevant Content is listing a lot of old nodes; I'd much rather have it listing newer nodes instead.

That's a good suggestion, maybe a first step would be to add the submission date behind the node title?
