I've been using Drupal for some time now and, without wanting to repeat what's been said before, it is an amazing CMS (I think those reading this already know how good it is!).

I work in the financial services industry and I've previously implemented Drupal on several internal projects. In the coming months, I will be putting a case forward for using Drupal externally, more specifically to drive customer-facing websites.

Are there any examples of other companies using Drupal for a similar purpose and furthermore, what are the pros and cons for using an open-source, PHP-based solution like Drupal over more commonplace bespoke Microsoft et al solutions?

I feel I will ultimately face several questions over infrastructure, security and support so if anybody has any experience or knowledge they would like to share, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Steve

steve,

in icann policy space the subject of the dns as a platform for financial applications has gotten some interest, which is where i'm coming from.

from the perspective of applications likely to employ a cms for a public facing, transaction-oriented application, those which are based upon micro-finance are unlikely to use bespoke solutions.

Hi Eric,

Thanks for the info. What sources are you referencing regards ICANN?

Perhaps bespoke was the wrong term to use rather that in my experience companies dealing with financial transactions use Microsoft, IBM etc solutions.

The types of sites I would be building would simply be capturing user data, not necessarily processing financial transactions. In this instance what would the risks be and again does anyone have any examples of financial services companies using the Drupal platform?
