I've cleared my cache, run cron, updated (though I don't why I would I just did) and the $base_url is still the wrong url. It's showing up as my test sites url (a subdomain). Any ideas on how to correct this?

is $base_url set in settings.php ? if you recently altered it, are you sure the changes stuck? settings.php is secured by perms on the default folder and on the file itself. They must be set to 777 to edit the settings.php file and then switched back to what they were before you changed them.
