Hi,

I noticed that 2 Drupal-books are currently available:

Drupal: Creating Blogs, Forums, Portals, And Community Websites (Paperback)
http://www.amazon.com/Drupal-Creating-Portals-Community-Websites/dp/1904...

and

Building Online Communities With Drupal, phpBB, and WordPress (Paperback)
http://www.amazon.com/Building-Online-Communities-Drupal-WordPress/dp/15...

which one would you recommend reading to learn Drupal?
I already know some other CMS's (Mambo, Textpattern,...), so I 'm not a complete beginner...

regards,

Johan.

Buidling Online Communities with ... touches on more subjects and goes a bit more indepth IMO. For the record however ... I have gained knowledge from both. There were a few times where certain things didnt click, until I looked at both explainations (when available) for a perticular subject.

I agree with VeryMisunderstood. I found both books very helpful.

The IBM series on Drupal (free online) provide more advanced background (e.g. themes, creating new modules)

Now that I understand the big picture, I can make better use of the terrific online documentation at drupal.org.

The first one is too basic and don't go in depth. I just went to Borders and one hr i had finished the book. they have pretty basic stuff. I would want a more in depth book.

Go with the book of Robert Douglass.
I read it while setting up my drupal site and it answered almost all my questions. It is a GREAT book to get started with drupal.

David Mercer's book is good for beginners. I think it would be perfect for those who have never used Drupal before, or even those who are totally new to the idea of a CMS. Personally, I wish most of the chapters had more in-depth information.

I think that putting a few hours into the forums, books, and project issues on drupal.org is time better spent if you already know the basics of setting up a Drupal site. If you are new and you want your hand held through the process, go for David's book for sure.
