Hello again. I'm just wondering if its possible to have a field which depending on if its checked or not (a single on/off checkbox) can promote or demote a user to a different role.

What I was thinking was to create a checkbox only visible to a particular role whose sole job is to review membership applicants and review the applications submitted. The check would basically be for an applicant's status, a check to promote them to a higher level member, and no check to simply leave them as an authenticated user.

Does anyone know how if this sort of functionality is possible (mainly changing users roles via cck)?

Also if anyone has a better solution please let me know.

You can use Rules to change roles on several actions, e.g. when content of a certain type is created, add or delete a user role.

I used it recently to allow users to only create one page of a particular content type.

Not sure you can use cck with Rules straight out of the box, there maybe additional models available.

After some help on irc I found out that you were referring to the Rules module (Im assuming). This does indeed seem to solve my problem, however Im not entirely sure how to use it. I currently have it set to add a user role to the content's author once I update the checkbox. Now the issue is that I dont know how to set it to remove a role once the checkbox is unchecked. Also whenever I edit the content Im automatically assigned as the author so myself (admin) is promoted to a new role. Any ideas how I can fix this?

Alright I've completely changed my set up to a drop down list comprised of three options (accept,deny,and pending). Now I can test for the exact string match and operate on my users from there. Also its no longer changing admin to author so I'm not quite sure why that was happening before.
