simple access - use of blocks

What I am trying to accomplish is have a block that is only visible to certain roles AND have the block's content (a list of nodes) only accessible by that role. I am able to do the first part by configuring the visiblity of the block and I am able to make nodes only visible by using this Simple Access module....but the strange thing is I can't get those nodes to be listed in the block? I have it set to the proper block in the Menu Settings of a node but it never shows up in the block.
