Sorry, I've been completely overwhelmed with other projects for the past 6 months or so. I believe that I will likely be moving most of my sites to texy over the coming months and definitely won't have a lot of time to devote to textile before spring. If you (or someone) would like to become a (or the) maintainer, let me know.
As a user of Textpattern I feel the upgrading of this module would be worthwhile. TXP will handle smaller sites very well, but nothing like the scale of which Drupal will. Therefore it is in the interests of the Drupal community to make it relatively simple for TXP users/developers to have Textile available to them.
As I have said before, if someone wants to take maintainership of Textile and replace the backend or fix the backend, I will be happy to transfer it. I have not had time to work on it other than upgrading with each new version of Drupal. I no longer use Textile much myself, in favor of other filters (i.e. Texy), so I no longer have an inherent motivation to dedicate a lot of time to its care and upkeep.
