The facebook user's name is not being logged into drupal after FBconnect, nor is the facebook users default image showing on their profile.

You can test FB connect on my drupal/social network here:
http://surroworld.com/user/login

Any ideas why the full name and default picture don't appear? Try it for yourself.

I have a similar problem in 2.x-dev
But it's not on all pages.
For example, with my own account, it only works when I'm viewing an /edit-page, but NOT when I'm viewing edit/fbconnect and haven't connected my account yet.
With user 1, it always works, except when i'm viewing edit/fbconnect and want to connect my account.
And with a testuser it simply always works.

I've tried different facebook-accounts, different drupal-themes, all have the same result.

It is printing the fb-connect tags, they just don't always work.

When I switch back to 1.x-dev, it works just fine again.

Well in my case, using 6.2.dev (Sept.3), I got following results:

1. Facebook login widget would only shows up if I enable Facebook Social as well.
2. Fast login option must be turn off... (I suspect this must be your case as well) otherwise I got stuck just like yours.
3. Using fast login (latest dev) got me error that I should enter an email address (on previous dev it works just fine).
