why I can see the "direct link" on non-private nodes?

The direct link it printed for every node that has a UUID assigned to it. Even if the node is not marked as private.
This behavior is intended so marking the issue as "works as designed".
It seems the recent version does show the link even when a UUID is not assigned to it. The link resolves to example.com/private/. See http://taighde.com/patrick-flaherty/blog/libya-doesnt-want-unicredit-the... as an example.
I don't mind creating another issue or we can piggy back off this one.
