Automated blogroll box (based on import.module)

Project:Drupal core

Component:aggregator.module
Category:feature request

Status:closed (fixed)

Issue Summary

A nice feature which could potentially attract more bloggers to Drupal would be an automated Blogroll box (a list of interesting blog's) based off news feeds you've subscribed to.

I don't really understand what you mean by this.
We already have:
- site cloud block
- import block (recent news feed items)

What would this additional box implement?
Please describe in detail.

If there's no activity on this for a week, it's gonna be closed...

the intention for this was to make a blogroll box based off the news feeds you import. in case you aren't familiar many bloggers use blogroll to refer to a list (generally displayed as a sidebox/block) of the other blogs that they frequently visit.

the assumption is that if you import their rss feed then they qualify to be listed as part of your blogroll.

so a nice feature would be to have the import module generate a block which simply lists the names of all the rss feeds you subscribe to with a link to the home page.

Ah. I see now.
I'll do this, erm, tonight. Probably. Assigning to me. Likely to be patched in CVS, not 4.1.0 (although someone can back-port it if they feel the need).

Right, I've now implemented this functionality. It was a little more involved than hoped, but as a consequence I've now learnt how the block system works...

Please see http://lists.drupal.org/pipermail/drupal-devel/2003-April/023250.html for details.

Therefore marking this one FIXED. Will mark CLOSED when it gets committed to CVS...

The functionality required to make this happen has been committed to CVS (all the stuff to patch up the delta field of blocks to make it more useful), but Dries didn't commit the bit of the patch that adds the functionality requested in this feature.

The reason for this AFAICT is simply due to what we call it. You've called it a blogroll, but it's not just for blogs - it's for any type of RSS feed.

I'm posting a mail to the devel list to start a thread about all this.

Am marking this one postponed until we've resolved naming issues, etc.
