The music and lyrics is GPL, and I would like to be able to collaborate with the general Drupal community to improve them both. I find drupal.org the natural place to do this, and to do it as a Drupal project would be very clean.
The project does in no sense duplicate previous projects in the Drupal community (though it has been inspired by The Drupal Song, http://www.lullabot.com/podcasts/the-drupal-song). It would probably not enhance any Drupal sites in any direct way, but I hope that the spirit of the song will inspire Drupalistas to do great work, thereby indirectly contributing to work in the Drupal community.
This somewhat controversial CVS account request is based on three arguments:
1. Drupal projects are not only modules and themes, but any project that enriches the Drupal community.
2. Drupal.org is the best place for collaborating on Drupal projects. Using drupal.org gives the necessary tools and avoid forking the community.
3. The project is appreciated by at least parts of the Drupal community.

avpadernoHello, and thanks for applying for a CVS account. I am adding the review tags, and some volunteers will review the code, pointing out what it needs to be changed.

If there is a Chuck Norris module, why not to have a ballad? ;D Hope there is not incompatible issues.

I reviewed and tested the song in CPH, together with a bunch of other people :)

dave reidWould be great if we could get such eager helpers here to review other CVS applications as well!

forestmars commentedItangalo currently does not have a CVS account but does in fact have a Certified to Rock score.
This makes him, AFAIK, the only person without a d.o. CVS account to have a Certified to Rock score.
So frankly, I am a little worried that if he actually gets CVS access, he might conceivably break the Certified to Rock meter.
Anyone that saw Kitten Killers in Copenhagen will realize this concern is not unfounded!

chx commented@Dave Reid -- as I told you yesterday, we need to have fun sometimes. This is it. There was no work involved in this. Reviewing CVS accounts alas is a lot of work. Wish I had the time to review :(

lisarex commentedforest, until recently I had a CTR score and no CVS account. I am pretty sure there are others like that.
Also, installation profiles and theme engines (as well as some translations) are "projects" so it's not just themes and modules. :)
Anyway ... +1

itangalo commented@lisarex: I guess forst's comment comes from my own text at http://nodeone.se/blogg/you-say-ballad-i-say-gpl. However, I just learned of another one that has a CTR score and no CVS account, so I really should change that text.
And yeah, installation profiles, theme engines, translations and docs(!) can be projects as well. Absolutely.
Thanks for the plus! (And the recording for Foo Bar!)
The project is now available at http://drupal.org/project/powerballad
Hooray!

dave reidAnd I said I'm against fun...where? I love when we have fun, but it's also a little sad for our actual CVS applications who have been waiting patiently for reviews get skipped over so frequently.

gddI was not and am not against this application being approved. However, keep in mind that approval for one project also means approval for unlimited projects, and this is one of the reasons we have an approval process in the first place. And if I was someone whose CVS application had been held up for months over whether I used 2 or 4 space tabs, I would be pretty annoyed to see the power to commit unlimited projects given to someone else in four hours with no code at all. Again this is not a judgement about this particular application or how I think this particular applicant will behave. It is a question of what is our policy, why is it in place, and how can we justify or not justify exceptions so that people don't feel like they're getting treated like shit.

avpadernoI agree that approving a CVS application when it has been provided three text files could not make sense, and it could seem not respectful for who applied for a CVS account providing code.
To say the truth, there has been already a case where a CVS application has been approved without to see any code; we would not have Batik as Drupal core theme, differently. In every case where a user applies for a CVS account to be co-maintainer, then, the application is approved without to review any code.
In both the cases, other users who are applying for a CVS account with their own module could feel that approving a CVS account without reviewing code is disrespectful of them.
[Edited by kiamlaluno to report that there have been already cases where a CVS application has been approved without to see any code.]
