Panel doesn't override the profile form

I'm sure this is simple, but for the life of me, I can't figure it out. I'm using Content Profile and Panels and your wonderful module for facebook-styl statuses. I was able to use Panels to display the status update form below the user's profile, but the form additionally still displays (along with the view) above the user's profile.

How do I disable the default "above the profile statuses" and keep it at my overridden location below the profile?

I'm not sure I understand what you're saying because you haven't given me enough information. However it sounds like you're using the User Profile widget in your panel which contains the status update form. So you should probably disable that widget and just add the information there in separately.

While the documentation has lots of information, it's doesn't have the nice step-by-steps some of us need. Yes, I'm aware there are many ways to configure this, but I'm sure there are common use-cases, such as panels overrides.

Most people just enable it and it works. Of course you're welcome to write a step-by-step tutorial yourself if you would like.

Don't disable any modules, just edit the panel, go to the Content section, and disable the User Profile widget. Almost every section that the User Profile widget displays has its own specific widget so you should be able to recreate it using just the sections you want. If that's not sufficient then the only alternative is to override the default user profile in code, which sort of defeats the point of using Panels in the first place I guess.

I really don't mean to be curt with you. I just have very little time and I've already explained everything there is to explain. When you're working with free software, either be prepared to accept that things won't always be exactly the way you want them, or be prepared to figure out how to change things yourself. There is no "display status update form in user profile" checkbox because either you use the default profile (in which case pretty much everyone will want the status update form there) or you override the default profile. With Panels, you've overridden the default profile, and you're now in the realm of custom behavior not explicitly governed by FBSS, so it is assumed that you know what you're doing. If you don't, read the drupal.org documentation about overriding user profiles, or open an issue in the Panels queue about how to display certain widgets. The Advanced Profile Kit module may also be useful.

A step-by-step tutorial, if such a thing were even realistic, would contain no more information than I've already given to you. If you want to pay me to write such a guide, you are welcome to do so, but please be aware that my time is not cheap.
