On the module's page it states:
The core maintainers claim that this module is not needed in D7; I have my doubts about that claim. At the very least there should be a nice UI to accomplish the task of images for terms. If you have worked with fields in D7, please contact me about helping with a D7 version.
So if that's true, what is the alternative for achieving an image associated with a taxonomy term?

nancydruWell, the first thing I think they mean is that the image would be a field added to the term. If they think that each of the thousands of users of this module are going to do that manually and then write their own code to display it, I think they are sadly mistaken. But I have not investigated this yet. I believe there will still be a need for TI in some form. At the very least, there needs to be an upgrade path.
If you have a D7 site and are willing to investigate, I'd appreciate an update.

pvanderspek commentedWell, the only solution I can think of is the one described in this forum post: http://drupal.org/node/678368
In D7, the Field UI might be a solution as described over here: http://drupal.org/handbook/modules/field-ui

nancydruYes, that's what I was referring to.

pvanderspek commentedWell, I'm not using D7 yet, but Field UI does seem like a suitable alternative. I don't think what is described is easy to do in D6 without taxonomy image, but from the looks of it it should be relatively easy to manage in this way in D7.
