Have an installation where the Metadata tab is available to anonymous users. Clicking on the tab allows anyone to put anything in the description fields. I deleted the file, recreated a blank file that is not even writable and it still shows up. At least it's not writeable so spammers can't put stuff in there. I tried turning off the Metadata in the module configuration but that didn't work. The tab still shows up.

thank you for reporting this and helping to make webfm better. Can you please provide a screenshot - I am not sure what you mean by the metadata tab? Also can you provide a screenshot of your webfm permissions?
