JavaScript is not my friend, so I'm hoping to get some contribs to tackle AJAX.

As for titles, there is a default title setting in each Type file (see README.txt, 2.4.1 and 2.4.2) which appends a 'prefix' and 'suffix' to the name string.

You can edit these values if you want to remove them. In this case, see line 23 of /mysite/plugins/types/feed.inc. Make this change:

      'suffix' => t('feed'),

To:

      'suffix' => t(''),

When we have proper 'po' files, you can handle this in a translation string.
