Hi, is there any way I could hide the log in box, and just have "log in" and "create an account" as a link, when the visitor clicks on log in the box then appears.

Go to admin > build > blocks and disable the login block.
Now Add a new block and include the following link in it - http://yoursite.com/user
Enable this block...
