anonymous nodecomments are not editable

Nodecomments posted by anonymous users save the name they enter as the Author for the nodecomment. If you try to edit the nodecomment, you get the error message:

"The username xxxxxxx does not exist."

Since there is no user account created for the name entered by the anonymous user, it doesn't allow editing. How do we get around this problem?
