This is so bizzare... I've installed hundreds of drupal sites, and this is the first time I'm having this problem. This is happening both on a previously-working site, AND just after a fresh 4.7.4 install (and tried CVS too, same thing):

1) Only ONE Theme shows in the admin -> themes selector page, even though there are 3 in my FTP file structure;

2) I have several additional modules installed, yet ONLY ONE of the additional (non-core) modules appears in the admin -> modules page;

I can see the modules still there (in the previously-working site) in the FTP file structure and in the database, and my content is still there too, just ONLY core modules and one theme appear (bluemarine).

If anyone has a clue what's going on here, please respond. THANK YOU!!

Perhaps your server is running out of memory?

You may already have checked this, but here's a handbook entry on increasing memory for PHP:

I have the same problem. This happened to me yesterday - the only theme I have in my admin panel is bluemarine. I checked my directories via FTP which shows 5 themes, and my databases seem fine. All of my content is intact, however, all of my themes are 'gone'. I am new to Drupal and I have been searching the forums and support pages throughout the Drupal site.

Yes it was yesterday for me too. I had downloaded version 4.7.4 on October 18th (and downloaded fresh again today the 4.7.4 and CVS versions). When/what version did you download?

The problem is, I've created a complete fresh 4.7.3 install, and the problem is occurring there as well...

Sounds like problems associated with PHP versions. Did you switch to PHP5?

Here's what my CPANEL says (I am hosted on TCH, anyone else?):

PHP version 4.4.4
MySQL version 4.1.21-standard

I'm using the most recent version of Drupal (downloaded last week) PHP Version 4.4.4, MySQL version 4.1.21-standard, and I'm also on Total Choice Hosting.

Chris - are you on TCH as well?

No, I'm using different webhosts.

I meant "hubris" Chris (since he is having the same problem) - my apologies, Christefano...

I tried doing some things via their cpanel... mostly permissions stuff, but no success yet..

I'll start poking around the PHP version.. see if I can change anything worthwhile...

I wonder if it is 4.4.4. Is anyone running this version of PHP without Drupal problems? We need to get a baseline here.

I'm more confused now; I removed the directory 'bluemarine' from the themes folder, refreshed my browser window, and chameleon and marvin are now showing.

Again, those are the only available themes I can see in the admin area, however, there should be at least 5.
I increased the memory as was suggested to no avail.

colorado’s picture

I can confirm the same result after removing 'bluemarine' theme, now chameleon and marvin are showing on my site as well...

Did you install through Fantastico?
I did not use fantastico to install drupal, but I'm wondering if I should have.
I also had trouble yesterday with the server that I'm on at TCH. The connection was dropping via FTP most of the day. Did anyone else using TCH experience any server related issues?

hubris’s picture

I tried it with fantastico (Drupal 4.7.3), and just straight self install (4.7.4 and 4.7.3)... problem showed up on all.

I didn't install using Fantastico either, as developers on this site have emphatically warned against it. I'm using FileZilla on my FTP account.

fantastico installation didn't help anyway.
I have heard negative things about installing Drupal through fantastico, so I was hesitant to try it.
Drupal istalled with the 'pushbutton' theme, but again the only theme showing is bluemarine.

I'm using cuteFTP for my ftp account.
Have you noticed any service issues on TCH?

hubris’s picture

The timing is about right for my issues. I first opened the account in Aug... plopped in some modules pre Aug. 31, which worked ok - it wasn't until just recently I started to add more modules. This would also explain why a roll-back to Druapl 4.7.3 is also not working.

Is the only commonality between the Admin/Modules page and the Admin/Themes page... is that both the list of themes and modules are stored in the System table...?

There's not much I can do to fiddle with the PHP version on TCH - They've specifically stated they have no intention of upgrading to v5.

Other stats on the server:
Operating system Linux
Kernel version 2.6.9-42.0.2.ELsmp
Machine Type i686
Apache version 1.3.37 (Unix)
PHP version 4.4.4
MySQL version 4.1.21-standard

TCH people are referring me to this on their forum post:
http://www.totalchoicehosting.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=29929

... I'm going to open a ticket with their helpdesk, see if there is some mysql setting they know to change...

-Chris

colorado’s picture

I also have submitted a Support Ticket, TCH says they are aware and working on it, and the Head Guru Bill Kish advises:

"Anyone else with the same issues to please open a ticket and asked to be moved to another server."

---
"Please drupal responsibly: give as much help as you get."

allyronco’s picture

I also sent a service trouble ticket. Their solution is to move me to a different server. I'm really hoping this solves the problem. I'll be sure to post the results.

colorado’s picture

Total Choice Hosting has moved my account to a different server, and the problem is gone. During the transition, until my domain name resolved to the new server, links on all my sites returned "Page not found" errors. But it works again now and I assume its because the domain has finally resolved.

TCH is always very responsive - I've used them for about 10 years now, in case anyone wants to find a good web host.

Thanks everyone here for working with me on this problem.

Looks like the move to a different server did the trick for me too. I'm going to try and nag a little bit on their forums to see if they ever figure out what caused the problem in the first place and to post the details.
