I created a content type where, apart from the body, various text fields (CCK, "filtered text") are used. It seems that the external link icons do not show in these text fields, even though they do show in the body text.
Any ideas?

By "in these text fields", do you mean when viewing the page or editing the node?

I mean when viewing the page. I think I have never seen the external link icon when editing the node.

Hm, the display of the icons should not be affected by which field they came from. Could you provide a sample of text (copied from the source when viewing) of links that do work and those that don't?

Forget about this issue, quicksketch. It seems that it does work after all. I installed the extlink module after I had created some test content. On these (existing) pages, the external link icon did not show in the text fields I created for this content type. But when I created a new test page to show you what was happening, it turned out that the icon was being shown in all the text fields. Sorry about that.
