This issue only seems to happen in the 'manage display' and 'comment display' tabs of a content type.
I cannot drag and drop a field into a 'hidden' area under the 'manage display' or 'comment display' tabs. The table row will be draggable but not droppable. Saving only reverts back to the previous table row positions.
This issue didn't occur in D7 alpha 6 - only in alpha 7.
I have tested this with Firefox 3.6, Safari 5 and Chrome 5 on the Mac and found it to be consistent across them all.

rfayChanging to proper category.
Can you please give a more detailed explanation? "I go to ... and I click on ... and here's what I expect and here's what I get instead...
raydale commentedOkay, in admin go to 'Structure' > 'Content Types'. Go to 'Display Fields' on the default 'Article' content type. In the 'Default' tab under 'Manage Display' the fields are all set to show. When you try to drag a field (any field) so that it is under the 'Hidden' separator it will not drop and stay in place when you release the mouse button. Instead it follows the mouse around (when within the fields table). Upon clicking 'Save' the fields reset regardless of where the field you were attempting to drag was upon clicking save.
My testing conditions are as stated above. I am not sure if the same issue occurs under Windows but should be able to check later today.
This is definitely a new issue introduced with Alpha 7 (my Alpha 6 works fine with dragging and dropping fields into 'Hidden') and was also consistent in 7.x dev the last I checked.

rfayConfirmed. Pretty messy! This is a pretty close to fatal user experience and needs to be fixed.
tobiasbI tried to debug the bug and I found that with the commit http://drupal.org/cvs?commit=419550 came a small debug function in field_ui.js line 300. If you remove the debug function, you get now a alert message.
naxoc commentedI tried to reproduce this and I couldn't. I can drag and drop just fine (tested in chrome, safari, and FF on mac). But I found another weird thing:
When I drag and drop op 'Display fields' I get the yellow message on top of the page saying 'Changes made in this table will not be saved until the form is submitted'. That is fine, but the message only sticks around for a second and then goes away. At first I thought it was pretty nifty with the autosave, but it does not autosave. That message should not escape that quickly.
My js skills are sad, so I have no idea how to fix it.
yched commentedThe original bug is fixed.
re @naxoc about "Changes made in this table will not be saved..." messages : that's the object of #857312: Add a "changes not applied until saved" warning when changing widget/formatter settings

kalilo commentedIm still having this issue in a fresh install, I can not drag or drop field in the mange display of content types, also there is no "Hide weight" link , I cant find any solution to this.
peps_cyd commentedI'm also having the same issue. There is absolutely no way to save a new configuration : fields are automatically coming back over the 'Hidden' separator. And when I watch the BLOB file saved under the field_config_instance table in the data column, it hasn't been saved either. It still show text default.
This is a critical issue for me because I intend to use some of the created fields as variables (not to be displayed ever) to use in other modules.
FYI I'm using the latest 7.9 version of Drupal core on my development site.
Thanks for your help. After many sites in Drupal 6, this is my first work on Drupal 7 and I wouldn't want to go back to D6 right away.

kalilo commentedHi
try this solution:

tim.plunkettComment #12
peps_cyd commentedI tried the solutions mentioned above in #10, but only one gave a result: agregating the JS. And weirdly, what it did was giving me back the opportunity to use the drop-down menu to put the field as hidden, but the drag & drop is not working at all any more in the 'manage display' tab of the 'structure' section (the drag & drop is still working normally everywhere else).
To be more specific about my issue, it seems to be some kind of a javascript problem (maybe in the field_ui.js) because, before agregating the JS (and whereas the drag & drop was kinda working but producing no effect) when I used the drop-down 'format' menu, the AJAX throbber showed up and never disappeared. And should I click on save, nothing would happen.
The issue is not as critical now that I have a way to put the field as hidden using the drop-down menu, but still, it is too bad not to be able to use the drag & drop.
Thanks for the quick answer by the way, kalilo.
yched commentedThat most definitely looks like a JS error, probably caused by some conflict with some other contrib module or specific setting on your setup.
Do you by any chance have the "display suite" ou "field_group" modules enabled ?
Also, you most probably have a JS error displayed in your browser's JS console (firebug on firefox, developper tools on chrome). It would help to know that error message.
peps_cyd commentedIt's kind of a fresh install, so I don't have a lot of contrib modules installed yet, and specially neither "display suite" nor "field_group".
For what it's worth, there is indeed an error message in the firebug console for the page:
syntax error:
effect.showSpeed =pointing to ajax.js (line 441).Comment #15
peps_cyd commentedNow the weirdest part: when I open the ajax.js file that the console is refering to, the file actually stops on line 441 just after the
effect.showSpeed =as if it wasn't fully loaded. When I look into the Network tab in firebug, this file doesn't show any error at loading but is actually not loaded fully (I checked in the 'misc' directory, and the file is complete).
I tried emptying my cache, reboot both my computer and my internet connection. Nothing would work.
peps_cyd commentedOK, here is my last update.
It sounds like it should have been some kind of network pb because what I did was copying the ajax.js file, uploading it in the misc directory with a new name, deleting the original file, rename the new one to match ajax.js and then... everything worked perfectly well!
How strange!
Thanks yched for guiding me to the firebug debug console.
