Forms of content types with the "Create new revision"-option enabled: show this optional field:
"Revision information: An explanation of the additions or updates being made to help other authors understand your motivations."
It make sense to display this field (incl. the helptext underneath it), when a node is being edited, but not when it is being created.
It is confusing to authors and could need some clean up of the user interface.

not_Dries_Buytaert commentedOr at least make the display optional of the field for initial nodes (i.e. on creation forms) per content type.

panchoThis applies to D8 as well, so will be fixed in #308820: Don't show the revision checkbox when a node is being created and then possibly backported.
