I've been getting the "Validation error, please try again." on the Drupal.org search when I'm logged in and use the Firefox address bar shortcut. I use this feature all the time so to keep my productivity levels up I created a custom search engine using the Google Coop (http://www.google.com/coop) feature.

You can find it on http://www.glottalstart.com/goopal. Or alternatively, you can just bookmark this Google link, assign a keyword (I use gp) to it and start searching.

This is my keyboard sequence for searching on Drupal.org now: Ctrl-D gp search term (no need to touch the mouse).

I realized that the Google search won't find the most recent post - I'd say if you're looking for something posted within the last 3 days, you need to use the Drupal search feature. But I still use this as my primary search because of the quality of results I get and the well-documented search syntax.

Also, in the interest of full disclosure: Goopal is linked to my adsense account (because my other custom searches are) so if you click on any ads, I get credit. If this is a problem, anybody can set up their own.
