I'd like to be able to customize the message "The site is currently not available..." to read something else. Our site goes down for about 10 minutes each day while a backup is being run (on the 2.6GB Drupal database) and the site dies in the process during that time. Any thoughts?
Realistically, I may just customize the maintenance-page.tpl.php file in our custom theme to check the current time and display my own content, but I was hoping there was a setting somewhere in Drupal for it.

The site maintenance message
The site maintenance message is set in administration > site configuration > site maintenance
www.yoursite.com/admin/settings/site-maintenance
the solution for ur question is!!!
go to administer>sites configuration>site information in that a form will appear.....
if u need to change any slogan for "site currently not available" or something like that u can enter your text in that available 'slogan' field..........
i think this is what you asked for!!!!!!
