convert geo or wkd data to long/lat in a theme?

Hi, Im able to get geo data from an image thats uploaded to my site, however when looking at the node data its in some binary format, I need to figure out how I can in a theme or with some php code read that, and spit out a long/lat like the display field "well known text" does.. I can then take that data and pass that into a gmap?

anyhelp? been scratching my head on this one for a while.
