Strange problem encountered!

Problem: Admin is not able to edit posted comments. after editing the content, when he tries to save the content, a message is displayed "You have to define a valid author."
The name field gets set to autocomplete and email field vanishes(the same form displayed for comments by registered users, hence working fine for them) The $author value is displayed but not recognized.

No changes have been done in the core.
Custom theme does not touch edit comment thing
Permission is set to anonymous: need approval
Other related installed modules: AJAX comments and comment notify

Not able to reproduce the bug
Notifications are being send properly
DB is being populated

Can anyone suggest a solution or method to track the problem?
