As per discussion here, it sounds like the infrastructure team would like to promote the following announcement to the home page this weekend: http://drupal.org/node/926664
I'm +1 on the announcement being made, but as someone who didn't even know this functionality existed before now, I think this needs a little more explanation and context. As currently written, it's confusing and I think many folks will be unsure whether this impacts them or not. It should be made more clear that this only applies to sites that are set up to deliberately allow people to log in with their drupal.org user accounts.
