The Community Spotlight is a new feature of the d.o. redesign. Spotlights are created by community members within the new Community Spotlight forum and will probably contain a lot of comments. We'd also like the encourage photos and screenshots. They will appear as a teaser on the new Getting Involved Page, as well as a page of all other promoted Spotlights.

Q1: Should Spotlights appear in Drupal News/front page?
If yes, spotlights should be scheduled to be promoted in the usual way

Q2: Are these "Initial creation guidelines" sufficient? (They appear on http://redesign.drupal.org/node/885092 but need updating)

Inspired by others in the Drupal community? Nominate and interview the people improving Drupal for the Community Spotlight.

A Community Spotlight can be focused on an individual, a team (e.g. a Drupalcon team or the D7UX team), or any project that extends Drupal (e.g. a module, theme, installation profile etc). We are collecting Spotlights in advance of the launch of the redesign.

Anyone doing good work in the Drupal community should be featured in the Community Spotlight.

1. Please provide answers in a new forum topic
2. Include
* Full Names for each contributor
* d.o./IRC nicks for each contributor
* At least one image: photo, screenshot, illustration (exact instructions coming soon)

3. Feel free to get creative, while remaining relevant to the Drupal community, but here are some suggestions:
Example questions for individuals:
* How did you get involved with Drupal?
* Do you have any advice to anyone just starting with Drupal?
* Can you explain some of the benefits of getting involved with the community and what you get out of it?

Example questions for teams:
* What are/were your primary challenges?
* What advice would you give if you could do it over again?
* Show us the best examples of your work

4. Be sure to link to some examples of their work, include testimonials, project's usage stats etc.

5. Only the teaser will be shown on the main Getting Involved page, so be sure to "Split summary at cursor"

6. Ensure that photos/images only appear in the body, not the teaser

7. Content should follow the MBD editorial guidelines https://infrastructure.drupal.org/drupal.org-style-guide/editorial.html

Selected spotlights will be featured on the Modules, Themes and Getting Involved pages on the redesigned Drupal.org. You can preview this (still needs theme work!) at http://drupal:drupal@redesign.drupal.org/getting-involved and http://drupal:drupal@redesign.drupal.org/community-spotlight

Q3: How are these for Promotion guidelines?
* Spotlights demonstrate a person's/team contribution to Drupal
* Spotlights are well-written, typo-free and follow American English rules
* Rules laid out in the guidelines are followed

Q4: Anything else?

Now that we've had a couple community spotlights up, and I've just started promoting this one for drumm, http://drupal.org/community/neil-drumm, how can we use these better?

* Indicate when a spotlight was active? (text at the top of the spotlight's main node)?
* Indicate what gets promoted to the front page (three +1's in comments plus adherance to the style guidelines laid out above?)

How long do we want promos to be up? 1 month or so? 2 months seems too long. We have some other spotlights that are ready to be published e.g. http://drupal.org/community-spotlight/isaac-sukin and I'll be drafting many more based on webchick's fine list here http://www.webchick.net/contributor-spotlight

I would like to keep momentum going, as I think these recognize contributors who aren't necessarily appearing on other top 10 lists :)

Lets have some good metrics here to, live content sections are hard. When do we say, the content updates are just not often enough?

Hi folks,

Since the Drupal Association has taken over the creation of community spotlights, I think we can close this issue. If I don't hear any opposition, we'll go ahead and file this one away at the end of the week.

Cheers,
Leigh
