As shown in the source of http://openlayers.org/dev/examples/graphic-name.html openlayers supports custom symbols, defined as vectors.
There might be some use-cases where this is interesting. For example, the rectangle from the above page, could be used to create a very simple barchart overlay (with each layer presenting a value as a different rectangle, each with a different offset.)
With that, you can for example, create a map like this.
Just wanted to jot this down, as i found it in the source of some file. Filed as minor.

zzolo commentedHi @batje. I think this is a good feature request. But it may be worth looking into the Style Plugins to see how these can put together:

batje commentedyup, surely going to wait for a stable release of that before even thinking of any implementation.

zzolo commentedBumping this up to 7.x.

zzolo commentedBumping to v3. :)
Patches welcome to v2, but resources for this module are pretty thin and we should focus on a stable release.

milos.kroulik commentedCan we higher this task's priority? From my research it seems, that this should be the way to create easily recolorable SVG symbols. For a start, it would suffice to create simple interface for adding new symbols by manually inserting the coordinates into textarea (and specifying the name).
It may also make sense to create new spin-off feature request for adding ability to upload SVG files and convert them to symbols.
