Links with & are being converted to amp creating dead links. I am using CCK and URl link field and it is converting the & to amp. Is there a way to fix this?

I think that the field may be double escaping but cannot figure out where to fix this.

Other people aren't reporting the same problem, so it's probably something theme related causing the problem.

That said, you haven't provided any detail, really, on the problem you're having, so it's impossible for me or anyone else to really pick out what the problem is at a distance.

I noticed if we turn of the external link module the issue goes away. I posted an issue there but they said that module should not have that problem but when we disable it all is well for link.

It's been four years since this bug, and no one's touched it. If you need to you can re-open this ticket, but I suspect you don't need this fixed anymore.
