Wierd thing happened today. I upgraded to CVS and also installed new taxonomy.module and taxonomy_dhtml.module. Later today found that Add new comments link disappeared beneath my nodes as well as the comment form beneath my node.php pages.
I checked an have comment module on in the Admin. All users have permission to access comments, post comments and post comments without approval.
Anyone run into this problem with CVS or have any ideas what else I should do/check?
Thanks,
Mike

"Allow user comments" setting
We are running Drupal CVS here on drupal.org and we don't have such problem. Note that as of Drupal 4.1.0-rc, each node has an "Allow user comments" setting which should be set as well. Did you upgrade from Drupal 4.0.0?
got it
i don't know how i missed that. I got used to leaving that option unchanged and it would still set it to read/write. is there any way we can set comments globaly with the option of changing individual nodes locally? so I could set all comments to read/write but change an individual node to no comments (is that an option? I can't check at the moment, surfing on a pda).
I sort of wish we could do that with line breaks too -- be able to set line breaks on or off for nodes but select an option to change that setting when entering individual nodes. got used to doing that in MT.
thanks for pointing out the obvious to me dries. I can miss the most obvious things.
Seconded -- global comments setting
The default is comments disabled, and many times I will forget to change it before posting, until people start complaining.
Either a global default, and/or even defaults by type of node would be great.
