I ran the make file and didn't get any errors. Now I'm trying to run install.php using the Spaces Demo install profile and it has a requirement error:

The spaces_blog module is required but was not found. Please move it into the modules subdirectory.

had the same problem! go to the spaces project page and browse CVS. Click on the 6.3 branch click on the spaces_blog folder and click the view dead files link at the top. You can then download them manually.
