It would be great to be able to send out a reminder N days before a due date. I think sending it to the list of users who are already subscribed to the case using notifications would be great.

I'm wondering if others would find this useful and what sort of implementation options there are.

Thanks for the great suggestion. This has been a highly requested feature when I talk to people in-person about this module.
