It would be good if there was there option to be able to close the message so that it doesn't display anymore once they have read it.

For sure it would be experienced less obtrusive. As said above, once closed it shouldn't appear again, even navigating to another page of the site. Maybe even better to make it collapsible so it can appear again once the user decides to upgrade.

Off topic: I had some trouble with the other suggested IE6 Update module because of i18n issues. Not the case with this module. Thanks.
