I had been hunting down an issue with CCK Url link field double escaping so it was killing our links. I finally found that when we disabled external links the issue was gone. Not sure how this can be fixed or if this is by design but if anyone else has this issue I hope this info help.

External Links doesn't modify links in any way, other than adding a class and an icon. I'm not sure how this could be possible.

Hmm, well when we turn it off the links no longer double escape and there is actually text under advanced at bottom that does mention this in the GUI.
