after downloading and installing the drupal beta 1 release the website was no more accessible. update.php script updated 9 modules and then stopped working.

Updating from previous versions

While we do not support 7.x => 7.x upgrades yet (that happens in beta 1)...

If you have content or modifications you really need to carry over, you can try head2head module.
