Customizing Search in theme configure

I really like where aboutpeople puts the search bar, but the standard search doesn't do what I want; I have a customized search module, but I can’t get it to play nice with the aboutpeople theme. Essentially what I want to do is replace aboutpeople’s link to the default search module to my own search module. I figure something points to Search but I can’t figure out what, although I’m guessing it’s in css. Any help to hardcode this mod would be appreciated.
