I have a new content type in which I have set the "Comment Settings" to "Read/Write".

The issue I have is that when a user creates new content, they are forced to enter a comment. For my site, this is not appropriate. But I would like to allow comments when a user looks at a node.

I have tried several fixes found online but they remove the ability to create comments entirely. I want to find a solution that removes comments from node creation only.

Thank you.

Could you give a little more info on how the user is being forced to enter a new comment...does it happen after they submit the new content, or when they are editing the content initially? On all content types or just one? It doesn't sound like standard Drupal behavior.

A list of any contrib modules you have enabled might also be helpful.

Thank you for your quick reply.

It happens after the user hits the "Save" button. Then the node is visible with the "Post new comment" below. Only after reading your reply do I realize that this display is simply the node and not part of the node creation. That is where I made my mistake.

I feel a bit foolish. I have only been playing with Drupal for a short time.

Anyway, there is no issue now.

Thanks again.
