jazzitup commentedI would also suggest to increase the font-size for titles. If we'd like to keep node types and link to comments at the bottom-left corner, we should use a different color for those links (with a comment bubble), just like Google does for their search results. Green would look good.
redhatmatt commentedis this really a QA item? Seems to me just needs spec and layout before anything can be completed. Looks more like a design discussion.
jazzitup commented@redhatmatt: You're right. It's more like a discussion. So I'll just change the title.
Also, node type is something important. It shouldn't be at the end of the each block IMHO. I'd put it much closer to the title.
I would vote for using "@time ago by !author" instead of the exact date.

needs design review.
something for after the initial launch maybe :)
jazzitup commentedIt's much more user friendly even this way - just take a look at this thread, for example.
All items have borders, there are numbers to identify each item, edit/reply links are in a bottom-right corner, it makes much more sense and besides, search results is a crucial part of drupal.org in general. :)

itsnotme commentedMisunderstanding, comment deleted. Sorry :)
vmiliano commentedMaybe it doesn't need that much of an overhaul between now and Monday, just a little more white space and a slight tweak to how information is presented.
In the attached example, I've made the result type (project, issue, etc.) part of the subheading, and changed the wording as to the creation date (people will be looking for "last updated" dates and you don't want to confuse them), and indented the description (".search-results dd" in the CSS, I used padding-left: 1em; but you'll want to implement it with whatever is appropriate and consistent for your theme). I think it helps a lot, and is certainly doable between now and Monday.
Example attached.
jazzitup commented@vmiliano: Yes, I can see a progress you've done and I think this could work as a quick fix, but you forgot to visualize comment links. I wouldn't keep it in the same place. I suggest to move a link for comments exactly where I said: in the bottom-right corner. By doing that, some kind of a border or a separator will be still missing for search result item as a whole. I would leave this topic open for further discussion. Maybe the title could use a slightly bigger font in your example as well.
For a longer period, search results could look much friendlier to the end-user, so I invite everybody to give us their own opinion, screenshots, or exact CSS examples on this.

Anonymous (not verified) commentedSuggestions:
It would be an nice addition if you were able to select the Drupal version in the sidebar as well on the results page.
As well as possibly a 'Resolved' list item in the jump menu in the 'Sort by' at the top left, which could filter on resolved topics in the forum. Or maybe automatically place the resolved topics higher on the search results list.
jazzitup commentedIt's still much easier to read these comments than search results in d.o.
Jerome F commentedI agree with @design_dolphin using Solr to filter search results by Drupal version is very interesting:
I 've found these issues more or less related to that matter :
http://drupal.org/node/865510
http://drupal.org/node/692066
http://drupal.org/node/1061386
http://drupal.org/node/627838
http://groups.drupal.org/node/16732
It's already available when you filter by module, and the cool thing would be to have this filter also on the main search page Forums & Issues in drupal.org I still wonder where's the issue discussing precisely that.
lisarex commentedFrom the UMN testing:
Observation: Workflow of finding a new module was seen as overwhelming.
Recommendations:
1. Reduce size of descriptions in search results.
2. Move filters to right sidebar (as facets).
This was also flagged in http://drupal.org/node/932940#comment-3570932
Comment #13
estenrick commentedWe found a similar issue during usability testing.
#1164758: Search field was missed.
lisarex commentedMoving this to the Drupalorg customizations project. This issue is for code changes to the module for customizations specific to Drupal.org
Any issues related to the theme/CSS should have their own issue (and perhaps issue already exists) in the Bluecheese (theme) project.
And a mockup would help here a lot! This issue seems like a duplicate of many others..

mgiffordOk, so adding padding to the search results (.search-results .search-snippet-info) & floating to the right (.search-results .search-info) will improve usability of the search results.

Seems pretty easy.
jazzitup commented@mgifford: Great stuff! I would also add this code in _search-results.scss, just to make .search-info closer to it's search-result item:
It's a big progress in usability already.

mgiffordGlad you liked the patch. Here's a new one with your suggestion and a screenshot of http://search_api-drupal.redesign.devdrupal.org/search/site/ghosts
