Task description:

Create an energetic and simple video of how to install Drupal (preferably with visual aides like talking pieces of toast or clouds). An excellent video would be an extremely powerful and public tool for spreading information about Drupal to people that need it. If the community loves it enough it's possible that it could wind up on the front-page of the drupal.org website which would place your fate in the front of literally hundreds of thousands of eyeballs. A video of this scale would almost certainly launch you and any teammembers into the upper echelons of any marketing company you desire.

In particular there are a few things that the video should cover:
* Why the audience should care about Drupal
* How to get Drupal, install it, install modules and themes
* Where to find modules and themes

This would be targeted at a somewhat savvy developer who's never used Drupal. Probably they know PHP and command line tools.

Deliverables:
At the end of the project there should be a video around 1 minute that can be posted to Youtube and other social media players.

Primary contact: I would be happy to review this but I suspect that there are better people in the community to review this. I'm also happy to guide the student on their way.

Crap, just realized this is a duplicate of #948034: Create a 60 second Drupal 7 introduction video. Mine has a template but the other has a better mentor I think (since I know nothing about video editing). Thoughts?

I don't think this is a duplicate of that issue - that one's more about improvements to Drupal (i.e. "What's New in Drupal 7!") whereas this one is about installing Drupal. I think there are already some videos like that though - can you investigate and see what's lacking in those videos?

Thanks!

The essence is that many of our videos are made by developers for developers. I found vids for installing HEAD, for configuring views, etc. But I didn't find videos that talk about how to install D7.0 (of course not right?) By the time this launches we're going to need a whole new raft of polished videos to accomodate the release; this is just the first and I feel the most important. The rest can probably be done by developers, this needs to have some polish and inspiration that only someone with some time on their hands will be able to do.

The first link I found about D7 videos lead me to this page: http://drupal.org/node/863842
None of the videos listed on that page are about actually downloading, installing, and getting the base configured. And most importantly, none of them involve animated clouds or people jumping over chairs. I guess that's not actually mandatory though. :P

Maybe it would have to be longer than 60 seconds now that I think about it. But that's really neither here nor there.

There's also: http://www.homebasedblogging.com/2010/03/drupal-7-x-dev-installation/
But that is about the -dev version. I'm hoping that some fresh art student will get ahold of this project and really wow us instead of a developer showing other developers.

vosechu, there is no 7.0 release yet - what are you envisioning the student to record installing? The 7.x-dev package is the latest at the moment.

Yes, i realize there isn't a release but I'm hoping that by december when gci starts there will be a 7.0 ;)

I don't think that d7 installation process will change anymore, so there is no reason to wait for 7.0 :)
