I have a view that lists users and information from their profile (the core module). I want to change the view handler on one of the profile fields to numeric (I think this is the solution) but I don't know how. Effectively I have a profile field that is of type "textfield" but it holds numeric data and I need to be able to filter by "greater than" or "less than", etc.

If I could do this over again, I would use the nodeprofile module, but I can't re-do this at this point. The specification changed while the site is live. I need to be able to do this more quickly than I could by migrating the profile_values data to nodes.

I have a custom site module that could do a simple _alter if one is available, but looking over the Views API, it is unclear what I need to do.

Did this issue get answered? Is there a way to change the exposed filter operators to numeric ones even though the field is a text type?
