Hey there,

Just wondering why you decided to start this module when File Force http://drupal.org/project/file_force does exactly the same :)

Cheers,
Martin

Hey,

This project was abandoned when I applied for creating this module.

You can see my response on my motivation message : http://drupal.org/node/810650#comment-3018758

Thank you
Matthieu

Hey there,

Well, why didn't you take over that project then, I mean that's exactly what I did and made File Force work with formatters and Views etc., so it's exactly the same.. a little weird now innit :(

Cheers

Hmm, to be honest I don't see a big issue in that, all modules evolve and they provide _update hooks and other backwards compatibility for old users, that's not really a problem. And the fact that your module does the same, i.e. provides the filefield formatters, and does not work without FileField suggests that it's not coded in too general terms. File Force provides the same functionality, but also works without FileField, so it can still be used with other modules, like Upload.

Anyway, my proposition right now would be to merge the modules into one, and considering that File Force does more than this module, plus is an older one with a larger user base, I would suggest that we merge into File Force. I'd have to check if FF does not provide some functionality that your module does, but that shouldn't be an issue.

What do you think?

I agree it's a shame to have twice the same module, but I really work on it and I spent time for my module is functional.

This will hurt me to have to abandon what I started. I'll think about it and finish changing and correcting bugs in my module.

Hey there,

Yea I understand, I would feel the same way really.. hmm.. maybe there is a way for us to either join forces or to go more different ways, so that our efforts wouldn't be redundant.

Let me know if you have any ideas

I think merging is a good idea, I do not see that it abandoning your project/effort.
Maybe it would more be like stepping up the efforts as 2 developers working together are more then 1 + 1...

It think the community would benefit form a merge...

I am a bit late on the conversation, but for my case fileforce didn't work (maybe I misconfigured it, I don't know).
But whatever, on the opposite, when I DownloadFile it worked at first try in 5 secondes.
So... I am happy it was there :)

well, file force works perfectly well for a thousand users - I'm still confident to say that it is a much better in D6. In D7, I didn't want to hack around the public download method - so if you're using private, file force is still perfect. :)

But I'm quite certain that the 2 modules will never be merged anymore, so just pick your choice :)
